Philip Cooper
The firm was started by Philip Cooper, a senior trade mark attorney and a member of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys in the UK since 1972. He has worked extensively as a trade mark attorney in both private practice and industry, dealing with all aspects of trade mark law and management, as well as other legal issues concerning branding, corporate identity, copyright, and design.
Because of his expertise, Philip has been called to speak at various conferences in the UK, Belgium, Spain and Canada on trade mark and anti-counterfeiting topics. He is also a visiting lecturer at the University of Manchester School of Law.
Philip began his career with a leading firm of patent & trade mark attorneys, and then joined GKN plc where he undertook substantial joint venture, licensing, merger and acquisition work, as well as being responsible for an anti-counterfeiting program. Moving to BT as Head of Trade Marks, he was responsible there for the clearance and protection of their new corporate identity.
As Head of Trade Marks at Rover Group, Philip led worldwide trade mark registration and enforcement programmes to protect brands such as Land Rover, Mini and MG. During this time, he registered the shape of the classic Mini automobile as a trade mark, created the name Freelander, and led a major brand extension licensing programme for Land Rover.
VeryMark works worldwide through an international network of associates, as well as representing clients as registered trade mark agents directly at the UK Intellectual Property Office and the European Community Trade Mark & Designs Office.
